LOVE!!!! and I don’t say this lightly, love yourself! I’ve gone through life believing on so many accounts that I’m not pretty enough, or smart enough, or skinny enough and when I was coming up into my late 40’s suddenly I wasn’t young enough. STOP!
About 5 years ago I was at my moms house and all my sisters were there with all the kids (my mom has 20+ grandkids) my sisters were all in the kitchen talking and I was, as usual playing with the kids. In this particular case I was playing with Trey who was around 5 years old at the time. We were sliding down the long flight of stairs on our butts racing to the bottom and landing in a pile on top of each other laughing hysterically. When we made it to the top again Trey ask me, “Aunt Tam, how old are you?” I replied “well Trey I’m really old, I’m in my 40’s” Trey giggled and so innocently replied, “I thought you were a teenager” and down the stairs we went.
Ok I have been accused of looking young for my age but I realized that this had nothing to do with my outside appearance. Trey thought I was young because I was playing. I’m never hesitant to go up into the treehouse or slide down the slide.
Anyway I guess what I’m getting at is looking and feeling youthful has nothing to do with how pretty, or skinny or smart you are. It has to do with finding joy, creating, laughing, being yourself, having the same curious appetite as a child. It’s loving yourself and doing what you love, what makes you happy
Loving yourself is doing what makes your heart sing, what brings you joy. It’s taking care of yourself physically, mentally and spiritually so those things come easily. It’s being happy with who you are and accepting who you are. It’s not listening to outside opinion or judgement and it’s believing in yourself. Yes it took my nearly 50 years to figure this out but as long as the candle is burning there is still time to play!
Now, do you want to go slide down the stairs with me?
